The PhD Autumn School is funded by and involves the extended partership RETURN- multi-Risk sciEnce for resilienT commUnities undeR a changiNg climate. \n  \nThe PhD School is targeted to Civil and Enviromental Engineering PhD candidates\, post-doc researchers and early-career scientists working on seismic and flood risk at urban scale\, who are interested in broadening their knowledge through a multi-risk approach! \nThe activities will include: \n\nCross-cutting lectures and round tablesopen to all participants\, aimed at exploring the key aspects of multi-risk studies. These sessions will draw on the expertise of researchers from the RETURN partnership and internationally renowned researchers\, with the involvement of decision-makers engaged in mitigation policy planning and civil protection\, as well as experts from the insurance sector and NatCat companies.\nWorkshopswhere participants will work in groups to gain hands-on understanding of the interactions between exposure\, vulnerability\, and hazard in multi-risk studies\, and the resulting impacts not only on the built and natural senvironments\, but also on society.\nLectures organized into two parallel sessions(each consisting of eight talks)\, allowing participants to choose based on their background—either in seismic or flood risk—to delve deeper into recent research developments in their area of interest.\n\nA “3-Minute Flash Talk” competition is also planned\, where participants will be invited to present their research in the most effective way possible. On Monday\, September 22\, participants will be key players in a dedicated poster session\, during which a panel of experts will select six finalists. These finalists will then compete on the morning of Wednesday\, September 24\, to determine the top three winners\, who will be chosen by an expert in science communication. The expert will also give a seminar\, offering participants insights and practical advice on how to improve their communication skills. \n  \nDownload the brochure[/vc_column_text][nectar_btn size=”small” open_new_tab=”true” button_style=”regular” button_color_2=”Accent-Color” icon_family=”none” text=”Brochure” url=”https://www.fondazionereturn.it/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/PNRR_PhdSchool_Web.pdf”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overflow=”visible” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]Pre-registration is open until July 15\, 2025 – maximum number of participants: 35!!  NO REGISTRATION FEE!!![/vc_column_text][nectar_btn size=”small” open_new_tab=”true” button_style=”regular” button_color_2=”Accent-Color” icon_family=”none” text=”Registration” url=”https://forms.gle/mwkDfC7SRQtnv4yw8″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overflow=”visible” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:New Media Academy: “From research to dissemination" by Chora & Will Media and Fondazione Return
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite university professors and researchers interested in expanding their skills in science communication through new media to take part in the “New Media Academy for Science Communication: from Research to Dissemination”\, a training program promoted by Fondazione Return in collaboration with Will and Chora Media. \nWe invite you to express your interest by May 26\, 2025\, by filling out this form. \nAn online presentation of the Fondazione Return Academy is scheduled for Friday\, May 23 · 1:30 – 2:00 PM. \nOnline meet \nParticipation is free of charge and limited to a maximum of 20 selected participants. \nPremise\nIn the landscape of science communication—once dominated by books and lectures—new formats have emerged\, opening up unexplored opportunities and scenarios. In this context\, updating researchers’ communication skills is key to designing new forms of public engagement with science and revitalizing the transmission of knowledge beyond university classrooms. \nThe “new media” form an ecosystem of rapidly evolving platforms and languages. Social media\, newsletters\, and podcasts are now among the main tools available to those who wish to share their research activity\, even outside the scientific community. \nFondazione Return aims to train a group of researchers\, experts\, and professionals in the environmental sector\, united by the desire to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the information shared with the public. The mission is to contribute to a more informed and resilient society\, capable of facing environmental challenges with knowledge and awareness. \nWill Media and Chora Media have launched the New Media Academy—a school where participants can learn Digital Journalism\, Storytelling\, and Podcasting directly from the professionals at Will and Chora Media\, who use these tools daily to connect with millions of users across all platforms. In this context\, collaborations have emerged with companies\, universities\, foundations\, and associations\, offering tailored educational programs designed around the specific training needs of each organization. \nAcademy\nThe Academy proposal in collaboration with Fondazione Return aims to generate an innovative intervention model. The Academy is open to a maximum of 20 participants. \nThe proposed training model is hybrid (in-person in Milan and online) and is strongly characterized by a blend of theoretical lessons\, hands-on workshops\, and practical exercises. Each participant will develop their own science communication project idea\, starting from their scientific activity and based on the three formats proposed during the Academy: podcast\, social media\, and newsletter. \nThe course spans a period of 2 months and includes approximately 20 hours of lessons and 20 hours of individual project work. \nProgram\nINAUGURAL DAY\n(in person at the Politecnico di Milano) \n04/06 9:00-13:00 + 14:00-18:00 \n1. The world of New Media (9:00 – 13:00)\nPlatforms\, formats and languages with which to disseminate science today\, supported by data\, case studies and best practices at national and international level. \n2. Practical activity: from research to dissemination (14:00 – 18:00)\nHow to start from a research project to design a public dissemination path. \nONLINE TRAINING \n1. 11/06\, 11:00-13:00 – Podcast: the universe of podcasts for the story of research with a global look at the phenomenon;\n2. 18/06\, 11:00-13:00 – Social Media: platforms\, rules and languages used to provide information and communication today;\n3. 25/06\, 11:00-13:00 – Newsletter: techniques and tools to build NL and communities around specific themes; \nAt the end of each online meeting\, participants will be given a practical exercise\, which must be completed between meetings. \nPITCH (3 1-hour sessions\, one dedicated to each language)\n1. 09/07\, 10:00 / 11:30 / 14:00 – How to prepare a pitch: from the idea of dissemination to an editorial project (format\, target\, objectives). \nOFFICE HOURS\nBetween 10/07 and 18/07\, the opportunity to arrange 1:1 meetings with the reference teacher for the preparation of your pitch will be offered.

The training activities include a combination of technical visits and classroom teaching. \nThis selection is aimed at: i) staff of public bodies and institutions who hold roles and/or perform tasks (both in the technical and managerial fields) pertinent to the subject of the summer school; ii) staff of private companies and firms interested in in-depth studies and updates on the topics covered; iii) students in post-graduate training (PhD students\, scholarship holders or research fellows). At the end of the school\, a certificate of participation will be issued only to those attending who have followed the entire training course in person. \nThe technical visits will concern sites distributed along the entire Italian peninsula\, from Valle d’Aosta to Palermo\, which in the development of the project have constituted both case studies of learning on landslide\, subsidence or sinkhole processes and natural laboratories\, instrumented with monitoring systems and prepared for experimental activities on instability processes at a natural scale. \nThe visits will be alternated on site with frontal teaching lessons on specific topics developed within the scope of the project activities\, such as\, for example\, the influence of climatic factors on the dynamics of instability processes\, geophysical survey techniques in the marine environment\, experimentation of sensor technologies for the detection of gravitational instability processes\, application of numerical tools for scenario analysis. \nThe school is divided into two indivisible modules: the first\, from 20 to 27 June 2025\, includes the following stages: Turin\, Bologna\, Poppi (AR)\, Rome\, Acuto (FR) and their respective surroundings; the second\, from 7 to 13 July 2025\, includes the following stages: Bari\, Naples and Palermo and their respective surroundings. Each of the two modules includes the Roma Termini railway station as the place of departure and return. \nThe travel\, food and accommodation of the participants\, who will be selected from those who have submitted the application\, will be entirely covered by the organization of the school\, entrusted to Sapienza University of Rome\, Department of Earth Sciences. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overflow=”visible” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]Download the Program below[/vc_column_text][nectar_btn size=”small” open_new_tab=”true” button_style=”regular” button_color_2=”Accent-Color” icon_family=”none” text=”Program” url=”https://www.fondazionereturn.it/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/programma-didattico_SummerSchool-VS2-RETURN-1-1.pdf”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

For a culture of vulnerability” returns to Genoa\, in the evocative setting of the Palazzo della Borsa\, a public event organized by the University of Genoa through the University Strategic Center for Security\, Risk and Vulnerability. \nThe event promotes a reflection on vulnerabilities: from natural risks to data security\, from export protection to the protection of micro\, small and medium-sized enterprises\, from personal health to workplace safety\, from social marginalization to violence against women. \nThe method adopted is dialogue and comparison between the sciences\, institutions and components of civil society that operate on the multiple growing uncertainties. \nThe result that we intend to pursue is the strengthening of a widespread cultural resource in order to make society\, as a whole\, more prepared for the different declinations of risk: this aim is part of UniGe’s third mission and is pursued through the University’s strategic centre SRV – security\, risk and vulnerability which organizes the initiative. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Program\nThursday\, June 12\, Natural Risks\nFocus on natural risks and how science studies them: floods\, heat waves and storm surges addressed not only from a scientific point of view but also from the perspective of those who must make decisions in emergency situations and intervene to mitigate their consequences. \n  \nThe day also represents the dissemination of the results of the extended partnership RETURN – Multi-Risk sciEnce for resilienT commUnities undeR a changiNg climate of which UniGe is part. \nFriday\, June 13\, 2025: Cybersecurity \nThe day is mainly dedicated to data security and how science develops knowledge for cybersecurity in order to protect critical infrastructures\, but also personal data. Sessions are planned on data privacy\, the legal aspects that derive from it and the implications of the use of AI. \nThis is the dissemination of the results of the extended partnership SERICS – Security and RIghts In the CyberSpace of which UniGe is part- \nSaturday\, June 14\, 2025: Social Vulnerabilities \nThe event concludes with a discussion of social vulnerabilities: from workplace safety to violence against women and the wider kaleidoscope of vulnerabilities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n📩Info at: srv@unige.it[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]To subscribe\,  register on Eventbrite[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overflow=”visible” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]Download the Progeam below:[/vc_column_text][nectar_btn size=”small” open_new_tab=”true” button_style=”regular” button_color_2=”Accent-Color” icon_family=”none” text=”Program” url=”https://life.unige.it/sites/default/files/2025-06/programma-inVulnerabilia-2025.pdf”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overflow=”visible” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][nectar_btn size=”small” open_new_tab=”true” button_style=”regular” button_color_2=”Accent-Color” icon_family=”none” text=”Official site” url=”https://life.unige.it/sites/default/files/2025-06/programma-inVulnerabilia-2025.pdf”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
