Description and objectives

The aim of the project is to move beyond mostly qualitative kinematic geophysical scanning by consolidating a more quantitative geophysical approach that allows not only the identification of critical issues but also their initial parameterisation in terms of hydraulic hazard.

Two kinematic geophysical scanning approaches are planned: the new generation multi-channel radar methodology (hereinafter GPR); the combined methodology of electrical tomography (hereinafter ERT) and passive seismic (hereinafter MASW). Once validated under controlled conditions, these two approaches will have the dual function of increasing knowledge about the internal structure of the embankments (thus “photographing” the existing situation) and providing the managing bodies with an effective monitoring tool (capable of identifying the changes that will affect the existing situation over time).
