PRISMA

SPOKE VS3 - Earthquakes and volcanoes

Description and objectives

  1. Goals and Concept

PRISMA’s research team intends to create a digital atlas of the major seismic and volc nic events in human history that have been represented in literary work. In our project, we consider narrative, dramatic and poetic writing as a strategic place to study the cognitive, affective, and behavioral responses of people belonging to different geo-cultural contexts to the risk or to the real occurrence of seismic and volcanic events.

  1. Effectiveness of the results

The atlas will be generated in a net-like structure consisting of five ‘nodes’:physical, ficitional, linguistic, symbolic, and conceptual; it will display manifold ‘content layers’ that address different target readers to ensure the usability of the atlas beyond national borders, its structural nodes will be translated in English.

  1. Activities

Our project is articulated as follows: 1 – source research; 2 – source selection and systematization according to chronological and spatial parameters; 3 – source analysis, based on multidisciplinary approaches; 4 – digitalization; 5 – creation and networking of the atlas.

This structuring, which relies on an on-going cooperation with experts in various disciplines, will ensure long-term efficiency and sustainability.
