MonSECo – Monitoring and Safeguarding Ecosystems through the Characterization of Contaminants

SPOKE VS4 - Environmental Damage

Description and objectives

The MonSECo project assesses risks from organic, emerging, and inorganic contaminants, as well as climate change–induced environmental stressors.

Through sampling of water, sediments, and biota, the project characterizes and quantifies contaminants in the study areas. A specific focus is placed on leachates from plastics and bioplastics, tested under simulated climate conditions.
The goal is to identify additives and released substances, evaluating their effects on ecosystems and human health. Expected outcomes include contaminant distribution maps and risk assessments related to human consumption.
