SMART

SPOKE VS3 - Earthquakes and volcanoes

Description and objective

Sustainable Mitigation and Adaptation for loss Reduction of sTructures and non-structural elements (SMART) is a project that involves the design and numerical modeling of a prototype structure representative of Italian reinforced concrete (RC) buildings constructed before the introduction of modern technical standards, which are characterized by poor seismic performance. The proposed methodology will be capable of predicting the probability of exceeding multiple performance levels (both seismic and energy-related) and will provide guidelines for the design of innovative buildings, effectively and simultaneously addressing the following objectives:

  • Encourage building owners to invest in seismic retrofitting in order to comply with modern seismic regulations.
  • Implement adaptation strategies to respond to environmental changes, promoting sustainability and energy efficiency.
  • Develop a methodology for the integrated reduction of seismic and energy losses.
