Historic City Centers at Risk: Prevention, Restoration, and Climate Adaptation
Salone dei Cinquecento, Palazzo Vecchio, Florence
Monday, 6 October 2025
10:30 AM – 6:30 PM
The increasing exposure of historical and monumental heritage to natural, anthropogenic, and climate-related risks calls for a critical and multidisciplinary reflection on the evolution of conservation, restoration, and structural management practices.
The international conference “Historic City Centers at Risk: Prevention, Restoration, and Climate Adaptation” aims to provide an interdisciplinary platform for discussion on strategies, technologies, and innovative approaches for the protection and enhancement of historical and monumental built heritage.
The conference will focus on the following thematic areas:
-
Integrated Multi-Risk Management, from Building to Site Scale:
Tools and methodological approaches for assessing and reducing seismic, hydrogeological, and environmental risks at both building and urban scales, with attention to climate adaptation. -
Principles of Restoration and Innovation in Structural Materials and Techniques:
A reflection on the dialogue between restoration theory and applied research, with particular focus on the use of compatible materials, advanced reinforcement systems, and reversible and sustainable intervention techniques, in respect of the historical and architectural identity of buildings. -
New Non-Invasive Technologies for Cultural Heritage Monitoring:
Presentation of advanced diagnostic solutions and structural monitoring tools that enable continuous observation of conservation conditions and damage prevention, while minimizing impact and improving intervention effectiveness. -
Documentation and Conservation of Heritage at Risk in the Digital Era:
Exploring the potential of digital technologies (HBIM, GIS, 3D surveying, intelligent archives) for the integrated management of the cultural heritage life cycle.
